It’s great to watch any sports team taking it to the next level – and playing with very high levels of the champion’s cocktail :
Faith, Confidence and Belief. (F.C.B)
Steve Hansen has long achieved this with the mighty All Blacks. Johan Ackermann did it with the Lions – and Rassie has recently shown us how to re-ignite Bok ‘’GEES’’.
But, what has gone mostly unnoticed is what John Dobson has achieved with the Western Province Currie Cup team in a relatively short period of time.
Saturday, 27 October is Currie Cup final day, and I for one (even as a loyal Sharks fan) will be hugely surprised if the Cup does not stay in Cape Town for another year.
But, more impressive than their round robin results, is the special brand of rugby which they have been playing this year.
Something is different – a team taking it to the next level.
None of us are privy to what Head Coach John Dobson is saying or doing behind closed doors, but my bet is that he has created and fostered a very special team culture, one which is reminiscent of the All Blacks culture.
CHAMPIONS DO MORE.
Champions do more themselves – champions do more for their fellow players – and champions do more for their fans.
Champions Entertain, Educate and Enrich other’s lives.
Come Saturday – Newlands will be packed to the rafters.
And again on Currie Cup final day.
