How Tiger got it back with a newfound ‘WHY’ in his life.

4 October 2024, Friday

My kids have only ever seen me win on YouTube‘: Tiger Woods

Watching American golf fans standing ten deep at Bellerive, St Louis Missouri was simply amazing.

Even better was watching Tiger Woods finally come out of his long dark ten year tunnel.

The European Ryder Cup players better be well prepared to face up to the ‘Old Tiger‘in France.

(Ryder Cup:  28th to 30th September at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in France.)

With Tiger recording his last Major win way back at the 2008 US OPEN, what has changed so suddenly for him?

Simple. if one observes closely.

Tiger has flicked the ‘Champion’s Switch’ again.

And this time he’s back for good.

Back to where he was before that life changing day in May 2006, when he lost his father – his supreme mentor, his strategist, his tactician, and his confidante.

The ‘Champion’s Switch’ which I’m referring to – is that Tiger has successfully managed to take his primary focus off ‘the what’ in his life – and again place it on ‘the why’ in his life.

Tiger has never had a problem with ‘the what’ in life:

He wants to be the greatest golfer to have ever played the game

It means he has to surpass Jack Nicklaus’s record 18 Major wins.

But ‘the why’ in his life evaporated on that day in May 2006 with the passing of his father. His dad was his sole confidante, with whom he had a military like pact – to dominate World Golf.

Tiger found immense meaning in playing for his Dad – who served two combat tours during the Vietnam War, one with the elite US Army Special Forces.

Tiger’s life changed dramatically on May 3rd, 2006 .Suddenly he found himself alone – and hurting badly.

It was to be a long dark tunnel.

Now finally in 2018, he has a newfound ‘why’.

It’s in the face of his kids.

As he says, they have only ever seen him win on YouTube.

Some find it in the face of their children, some find it in their lover’s eyes, who can deny the joy it brings, when you found that special thing – you’re flying without wings : Westlife

Tiger has found new meaning in his life at age 42.

To Entertain, to Educate, to Enrich the lives of his children (and his fanatical fans)

We are going to see a lot more ‘Tiger Magic’ over the next few years.

Watch out Team Europe.

Watch this space Jack……….
