Talent, technique, technology, training and teamwork can only take one so far, and then it all comes down to who wants it more.
It’s called Emotive’ E’ Power – when an individual or a team finds a compelling emotive reason to win.
‘E’ Power has the ability to produce awe inspiring results – sometimes even turning underdogs into destroyers.
Galvanized into collective action, the Boks had plenty of ‘E’Power in store in Wellington when they overcame the All Blacks– the first time on New Zealand soil since 2009 in Hamilton.
Then it was straight on to play in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium versus Australia.
Put Madiba (Quno), Siya (Zwide) and Rassie (Despatch) together – all in their home region – and you get high emotion – a potent emotive cocktail for winning.
Add one more ingredient, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, singing the national anthem in front of a partisan and packed out home crowd – and Australia were always going to find the going exceptionally tough.
Having the honour to sing the National Anthem -with the capacity crowd singing along – gave me goose bumps : Yvonne Chaka Chaka
Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium has now become the new ‘BOK FORTRESS- – their unbeaten run stretching to six wins in ‘die baai’.
Welgedaan Bokke. Well done Rassie and Siya.
Now it’s on to Loftus this weekend to face the All Blacks at altitude.
Incidentally the Boks have last beaten the All Blacks at Loftus way back in 1970- that’s many moons back, when Neil Armstrong had just taken one small step for man – one giant leap for mankind.
Hopefully Rassie’s boys will have all the ‘E’ Power they need – to put the record right.
There’s always an emotive point to prove when a trophy is out of reach.
Good Luck Bokke.
