Covid-19’s “Moments of Meltdown”.What to do.

It’s taken us six long hard months to get to  ‘Level One Lockdown’ in South Africa.

Even though we as South Africans are built pretty tough, few, if any of us, can truly say that they did not experience ‘Moments of Meltdown’ during lock down.

On the world stage we have even seen crazy meltdowns from many of the champions of business, sport and life.

Take Novak Djokovic’s disqualification from the US OPEN.

So unintended. So wrong. I need to turn this all into a lesson for my growth and evolution as a player and a human being: Novak Djokovic

Novak has got it spot on.

If he found himself floundering at Flushing Meadows during Covid-19, it’s likely that we all did at some point during lockdown.

Covid’s catalytic change, coupled with very high levels of uncertainty, means that we all need to do our own bit of introspection.

In a way Covid-19 has been compelling us to change many of our ways.

We need to ask the right questions, starting with this all important one:

Is my current GAME PLAN made of the right stuff?

Here’s a quick fire THREE STEP METHOD to help you make the changes and step out the Covid tunnel stronger and wiser.

STEP #1:  DO A REALITY CHECK ON YOURSELF.

Covid-19 has made us aware that no one can wish away reality.

Ask yourself:

Where do I come from? Where am I now? Where do I want to be in the foreseeable future?

To move with the times you must to commit to making’ “Covid Changes” – to better yourself.

STEP #2:  DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON YOURSELF.  

Covid -19 has asked important questions of our lives.

What is working for you in your life right now?

What is  NOT working for you in your life right now?

You have to be a little ruthless here in taking out current constraints in your life.

Either you must remove what is ‘NOT WORKING’ – or at the very least ring fence the constaints to ensure that they do not zap your energy levels.

STEP #3: DO THE GAME PLAN TEST ON YOURSELF

To prevent “Moments of Meltdown “, you must ensure that your GAME PLAN is a high level one.

This is achieved by setting and aligning the all important 3P’s (Purpose, Priorities and Performance goals) –  which make up any high level GAME PLAN – that of any champion of life.

1: Are you clear on your PURPOSE in life?

Purpose helps you to see the bigger picture in life.

It’s the inspiration which comes from putting ‘THE WHY’ before ‘THE WHAT’ in your ‘inner’ life – so that you will need less motivation coming from your ‘outer’ life.

It serves as your compass in good times – and your scaffolding in tough times like Covid.

2: Are you clear on your PRIORITIES in life ?   

Setting your priorities in life is one of the most important actions you can take in your life.

Here’s what Novak’s might look like – or any champion for that matter.

PRIORITY #1: YOURSELF

(Having the Right Mindset, the Right Knowledge, the Right Support and the Right Game Plan)

PRIORITY#2: YOUR PURPOSE

(Novak’s purpose as a sporting champion would read like this : To Entertain, to Educate and to Enrich lives through his tennis genius)

PRIORITY #3: YOUR FAMILY & FRIENDS
PRIORITY # 4: YOUR HEALTH & WEALTH
PRIORITY #5: YOUR LIFESTYLE

It’s important to continually invest in your own ‘Big Five’ – and focus on them.

Or you will risk losing them at some point in time. (which can trigger ‘moments of meltdown’)

3. Are you clear on your PERFORMANCE GOALS in life?

Are your PERFORMANCE GOALS set ?

Most importantly, are they closely aligned with you PURPOSE & PRIORITIES?

With congruency you will go on to achieve what you really want in your life.

There you go.

You have empowered yourself to do life better………

Spring clean your health – your life.

Twice a year we are urged to reflect on our lives.

Each New Year we are encouraged to rethink where we are heading, kick bad habits and set straight our game plans.

The beginning of spring is usually the next time we find ourselves thinking about how we are living.

For some of us it means getting into shape and shedding kilos so that we can strut our stuff on the beach; others look at other aspects in their lives.

But, this year one thing is for sure.

Covid-19 has thrust health into pole position.

Strange, but true, there are many positives stemming from Covid-19.

The pharmaceutical companies have reported an exponential drop in their sale of seasonal flu medications.

The wearing of masks, staying at home, social distancing and more consideration for others – have all contributed to the normal winter flu season never happening.

With Covid-19 on the way out as our summer approaches,we are well positioned to take our health – and our lives – to the next level.

Here are the golden rules if you want to take full advantage right now.

They all centre on the universal principle of striving to live a life in balance – in that balance creates WELLNESS – and imbalance creates ILLNESS.

 

Too much or too little of anything – for too long – creates a state of imbalance.

Ready to spring clean your health, your life?

You can by creating more balance in all three realms of health and life.

#1: PHYSICAL (what we put into our bodies)

#2: CHEMICAL (what we put into our mouths and noses), and

#3: EMOTIONAL. (What we put into our heads)

They are all inter-linked, so you will have to find balance in all three realms together, if you want to see your health sky rocket this spring.

Howver, many of us fall into the ‘human trap‘ of unwittingly and/or habitually creating our own forms of imbalance in our lives.

Here are the most common human mistakes which we make – and we must avoid – to avoid the doctor’s rooms:

PHYSICAL:

We do not get enough sleep or enough exercise.We entertain physical toxins – for example: ‘too much or too little’ sun.

CHEMICAL:

Our diets get crammed full with acidic foodstuffs – and not enough alkaline foods to balance the ph levels in the diet equation. We further punish our bodies with the intake of too many chemical toxins – alcohol and cigarettes being the most common culprits.

EMOTIONAL:

We unwittingly hold onto highly toxic emotions, not knowing how dangerous this can be for our health and our lives. The prime culprits here are Resentment, Hate, Guilt, Criticism and Futility (Self-pity).Be aware as these ‘Big Five‘ toxic emotions can and will manifest in one or other of the serious life threatening forms of disease.

The good news is that if you get anywhere close to optimum balance in all three universal realms of health and life, you’ll soon find yourself mastering your health – and mastering your life.

Shaun Tomson and the power of “I Will” in life.

While Elon Musk can be described as one of South Africa’s ‘greatest exports’, (read  BIZNEWS article from way back in Nov 2014), many more South Africans are  making their own champion impact felt all around the world.

One such person is 65 year old former World Surfing Champion, California-based Durbanite Shaun Tomson.

In a recent rewarding webinar with Alec Hogg on BIZNEWS, he shared invaluable insights from his surfing life, his business life and what he now terms the third wave of his life in serving others.

He ascribes his purpose to be:

Wanting to be better – wanting to help others to be better
