COVID-19 stress related deaths are taking their toll in South Africa.

“While government recorded a total of 5,940 deaths to Covid-19 by 22 July, a Medical Research Council (MRC) report has found that “In the period 6 May – 14 July 2020, there has been an excess of 17,090 deaths from natural causes”.

The Covid-19 death statistics focus only on those who have contracted the virus, but there are further startling statistics that are now taking their toll – called ‘EXCESS DEATHS’.

The duration of the pandemic – coupled with the unprecedented lock-down period – are the major reasons behind an increasing number of ‘excess deaths’.

A significant number of these deaths can be attributed to surging societal stress levels, as the pandemic continues to cause death, destroy lives and devastate businesses and families alike.

Pertinent are the increasing number of deaths due to cancer, heart attack, addiction and depression – and other ‘stress related’ diseases.

As the lock down continues, stress levels are on an exponential upwards curve – with a high percentage of South Africans living their lives in an ongoing “state of imbalance.”

Too much or too little of anything – for too long – will lead to a state of imbalance.

Covid19 is a prime example of a state of imbalance.

Ongoing physical, chemical or emotional imbalance puts one at high risk of triggering – or fast tracking – one of the life threatening diseases.

If the imbalance finds its bedrock in the emotional realm, it can become life threatening.

Witness the recent surge in excess deaths.

Anthony Robbins believes that emotion is the ultimate human force.

Every day, you’ve gotta stand guard of the door to your mind : Anthony Robbins

When one’s life has been turned completely upside down by a pandemic and lockdown, stress levels can sky rocket.

It’s now known that excessive emotional stress – turns toxic in the human body – and at some point can trigger one of the serious life threatening diseases.

Here are the BIG FOUR emotional stress culprits. They are emotional toxins which we must guard against.

HATE IS THE PRE-CURSOR FOR HEART ATTACK.

HATE is a highly toxic that constricts the flow of life – your own life blood.

Be aware, as the resultant state of emotional imbalance can trigger heart attack.

RESENTMENT IS THE PRE-CURSOR FOR CANCER.

RESENTMENT is a highly toxic emotion that festers in the human body.

Long term held resentment to someone, something or some cause – can send your human cell formation into total disarray.

Be aware, as the resultant state of emotional imbalance can trigger cancer.

CRITICISM IS THE PRE-CURSOR FOR THE AUTO- IMMUNINE DISEASES

CRITICISM – and especially criticism of oneself – is a highly toxic emotion which clogs the human body.

Be aware, as the resultant state of emotional imbalance can trigger one of the many auto- immune diseases

FUTILTY IS THE PRE-CURSOR FOR ADDICTION AND DEPRESSION.

FULTILITY, coupled with self pity, is a highly toxic emotion that diminishes the meaning of life.

Be aware, as the resultant state of emotional imbalance can trigger addiction and depression.

Many people believe that we will shortly be past the Covid peak.

That’s good news.

In the meantime it’s wise to stand guard of the door by striving for balance in all three realms your life:

#PHYSICAL (what you put into your body);

#CHEMICAL (what you put into your mouth); and most importantly

# EMOTIONAL (what you put into your head).

Things will soon get better as the summer arrives.

This time too shall pass.

Go well.

Alcohol and Cigarettes:The smart way forward for Cyril.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is caught between and rock and a hard place in his decision to continue the ban on alcohol and cigarettes.

Instead of listening to all the counter arguments –  wasting time in court battles – and taking on more IMF debt,  our President should be looking for a win – win by asking the right question.

What is the smart thing to be doing right now?

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize is under severe pressure with hospital beds.

Well, build more field beds – and do it fast by providing more urgent funding – and more urgent labour.

Do this by unbanning booze & cigs, BUT at the same time imposing an additional temporary SPECIAL COVID TAX on both – to raise the extra funding needed.

Take this money to invest in more infrastructure – more field beds – and more jobs.

Remember how the 2010 Soccer World Cup infrastructural invesment pulled us through the 2008 financial crisis.

Our country must be losing billions in tax revenues from those who choose to smoke and/or drink.

Let them help fund our health efforts.

A temporary triple tax – VAT, SIN & COVID – will go a long way to stamping out most of the abuse of alcohol – and the government will immediately acquire the much needed funds for Minister Mkhize’s health efforts.

In addition, the burgeoning problem of a criminal ‘black market’ will also be dealt a severe blow.

And importantly for all of us Mr President, you will be able to further build the respect which  you  deserve –  not lose –  as we are beginning to see in the waning eyes of many desperate South Africans, who just want their jobs back– and to be able to feed their families.

 It’s a WIN –WIN scenario.

It’s the smart thing to do Mr President.

Right now our country needs more consistency, more certainty, more compromise, more confidence, more unity, more hope – not more rule

A nation turns its hoping eyes to you.

Thank you Cyril.
