Italian Francesco Molinari is in a rich vein of form – living the journey– enjoying life.

Coming off two wins and two runners up finishes in his last five events, he became the first Italian to win a Major on Sunday.

An incredibly consistent game, coupled  with a red hot putter , will take any player pretty far in golf – but with the wind coming up and a world class pack of golfers hunting you down – there must be something more to it.

Indeed,’The Open’ produced an epic afternoon of sport at its very best – proving that form takes more than just talent.

What went mostly unnoticed was how Francesco Molinari calmly handled his No.1 challenge on the day – playing alongside Tiger Woods – with massive galleries.

Not only did he outplay Tiger, he may have taught Tiger a valuable life lesson.

 Golf may be the greatest game – but it’s still just a game.

While Francesco found time throughout a chaotic final round to connect with kids in the galleries, Tiger did little to acknowledge the fans.

My money was firmly on Francesco to win, as it’s unlikely that Tiger will win another major while his focus remains steadfast on ‘’The Result’.

It’s called ‘chasing the game’ – when one stacks increasing pressure on oneself.

Francesco Molinari’s focus on the otherhand was on ‘living the journey’ – where one powers up one’s own game by focussing on the process – not the result.

It powers up one’s game plan.

Hopefully, there were a lot of young kids watching on TV today, like I was watching Constantino in ’95 coming so close. Francesco Molinari on his wish to inspire a new generation of Italian kids.

Granted this was the first time Tiger has placed some of his focus on his own kids -who were at Carnoustie to see their dad play.

 My kids have only ever seen me win on You Tube : Tiger Woods

Many years back Tiger played for his dad – having a military like pact with his dad.

Now he is finally playing for his kids

The times they are a-changin’.

If Tiger can place his primary focus on ‘enjoying the journey’, he will go on to win many more majors.

Success comes from focussing on the process – not the result.

Let’s hope Francesco’s wisdom has finally rubbed off on the Tiger.

It’s been long wait since Tiger last won a major in 2008 – but he’s only forty two years young.

I’m too blessed to be stressed : Brazilian surfer Filipe Toledo at JBay  

When facing up to any form of challenge, it’s refreshing to hear what Brazilian Filipe Toledo had to say after winning at JBay last week.

With the World Surf League title firmly in his sights, Toledo was pressed on how he feels about the mounting pressure of wearing surfing’s coveted Jeep Yellow Jersey.

He quipped:

I’m too blessed to be stressed

It’s a great way to view life, especially when your job includes having to exit the water when the odd one or two great white sharks come cruising through the line-up in Jeffreys Bay.

Surfers seem to take most things in their stride.

They’re definitely in- sync with the ocean.

Let’s apply Filipe Toledo’s way of thinking to Brand South Africa.

There will always be sharks coming through the line up. That’s just life.

But, thankfully we now have some great leaders who are fast building the right culture for Brand South Africa.

‘Ramaphoria’ has only just begun.

Those who want to disrupt – without adding any real value – will find themselves increasingly isolated in a country where people want growth and prosperity – earned via contribution.

Thank you Cyril Ramaphosa, thank you Pravin Gordhan, thank you Viceroy …..and the many more who have turned the tide on crime and corruption in our great country. No more hands outs.

In Madiba month, let’s all work extra hard to wave goodbye to those who do not have Brand South Africa at heart.

We are privileged to live in a country which has far more blessings than stressings.
